About Us
Prep The Food was founded in 2018 by Moad (me) and my mother, Saadia. I was a fanatic athlete and personal trainer, and my mother was/is a caring homemaker. As a personal trainer, I quickly discovered that all my PT clients could schedule that one hour of exercise, but that monitoring their nutrition the rest of the day was a challenge. Often, they lacked time, had other priorities, lacked motivation, or simply didn't know what to eat. Because I had already been involved in fitness, nutrition, and a healthy lifestyle, thanks in part to my mother, I decided to offer my PT clients nutritious meals, prepared by my mother. Simple, from home. Back then, in 2018, this was still quite unique. Almost no one did this, and many people were unfamiliar with it. A sports meal? What is that?
Because this proved such a success and more and more people were asking for it, my mother and I decided to take a more professional approach. We worked on a website, a proper production facility, and of course, marketing. We went from 50 meals a week to 50 meals a day, and from 50 meals a day to 1,000 meals a day. It all happened quickly! In no time, we had to vacate our first building and move to a larger one. Literally all my savings were and are invested in the business, but we did it for the future. Bigger, better, and more professional for the future!
Sure, this sounds like a huge success, but growth means investment, growing pains, and everything that comes with it: more staff (and by staff, I literally mean everyone I know who wanted to help us for free), automation, better packaging, customer service, website, and so on. It wasn't easy, I can tell you!
Besides the business successes and struggles, there are also personal challenges, such as COVID-19, my father's passing, a relationship, and of course, my own health and fitness lifestyle. We quickly discovered that starting and running a successful business takes a tremendous amount of time, money, energy, and effort.
After all the setbacks in the past, we can now proudly say we've built a successful business and that nothing is too much trouble for us. I think we've just gotten used to it, because setbacks happen, but you learn to deal with them, haha. I'm still the sole owner of Prep The Food, along with my mother. We have a close-knit team that feels more like family than staff, and we're far from done!
My girlfriend is now my wife, and thankfully, my mother can work a little less than before. Luckily, I don't have to do everything myself anymore, because I get help from my colleagues. Looking back on this adventure, we're incredibly happy with how it turned out. We're proud!
